Apr. 5, 2024 | Traffic Update for I-94 Bridge Work
Westbound I-94 Closure
Weather permitting, beginning 9 p.m. Friday, April 5, through 5 a.m. Monday, April 8, westbound I-94 will be closed between I-75 and M-10 for beam installation of the Cass Avenue bridge over I-94.
All ramps throughout this area will also be closed, including I-75, Chene Street, and Mt. Elliott Street. Eastbound I-94 will remain open.
Westbound I-94 will be detoured via southbound I-75 and westbound I-96 to westbound I-94.
McClellan Avenue Bridge Closure
Following a recent routine bridge inspection, MDOT has completed an emergency closure of the McClellan Avenue Bridge over the I-94 corridor, due to its condition. MDOT is currently finalizing vehicle detours to mitigate the early closure of the bridge and will distribute a subsequent public notification with details soon.
Northbound pedestrian traffic will be detoured via northbound Gratiot Avenue, westbound Harper Avenue, to McClellan Avenue. Southbound pedestrian traffic will be detoured via eastbound Harper Avenue, southbound Gratiot Avenue, to McClellan Avenue.
Demolition of this bridge is scheduled to take place later this year as part of the ongoing I-94 Modernization Project. The McClellan Avenue bridge will not be replaced as part of the future construction due to upgrades to the Gratiot Avenue interchange. A new complete streets bridge will be constructed four blocks west at Rohns Street.
